About the Project
Project Overview
Developed a comprehensive 17-page partnership proposal for BustoShow, a nonprofit organization based in Boulder, Colorado, with the mission of reducing event-related impaired driving and emissions by providing affordable, accessible, and community-integrated transportation to and from events. The proposal wasn't a class exercise built around a hypothetical client, it was written to actually be presented, which meant every recommendation needed to hold up under real scrutiny from both organizations involved, not just satisfy an academic rubric.
As part of a three-person team, I collaborated on strategic planning, market research, and business development to establish the Rayback Collective as a new pickup location for the 2026 concert season. The proposal had to work as a genuine two-sided pitch, demonstrating value to BustoShow's transportation mission while also making a clear business case for why Rayback Collective would want to host a pickup location on its property, two audiences that don't automatically care about the same things. Presenting the finished proposal to both BustoShow leadership and Rayback Collective management meant the deliverable had to satisfy two different audiences with different priorities at once, one focused on safety and accessibility outcomes, the other focused on foot traffic, brand fit, and operational feasibility, without either side feeling like an afterthought to the other's interests.
Balancing that dual audience shaped the structure of the entire document, not just its tone. The scope of the proposal also meant treating BustoShow's existing mission as a constraint the new location had to genuinely serve, not just a mission statement to reference in passing, since a pickup location that expanded ridership without actually reducing impaired driving or emissions wouldn't be a real win for the partnership at all.
The Issue
North Boulder residents lacked convenient, affordable transportation options to attend events at venues like Red Rocks and the Boulder Theater, leading to increased impaired driving incidents and traffic congestion. That gap wasn't hypothetical, it showed up in real ridership and safety data that made the case for a new pickup location well before any financial argument did, which mattered for a proposal that needed to open with a genuine problem rather than a convenient opportunity.
Existing pickup locations did not serve the North Boulder demographic, creating an accessibility gap that undermined BustoShow's mission of community-wide safe transportation and sustainability. A transportation nonprofit whose own service map has a hole in it isn't fully delivering on its stated mission, and closing that specific gap was the entire premise the proposal was built around, not a secondary benefit tacked onto a business development pitch.
Key Objectives
Expand accessibility for North Boulder residents who lacked convenient event pickup options.
Encourage safe transportation choices, reducing impaired driving incidents and DUI rates.
Strengthen community ties by partnering with a local venue sharing similar sustainability values.
Build sustainable transportation practices at affordable prices aligned with Boulder's environmental goals.
Create mutual benefits including increased foot traffic, brand exposure, and customer loyalty.
Minimize traffic congestion and promote environmental responsibility through shared transportation.
My Role & Impact
Market Research & Demographics
Analyzed target demographics, RTD bus routes, and transportation needs for North Boulder residents, establishing the actual accessibility gap the proposal was built to close.
Cost-Benefit Analysis
Developed detailed financial projections including revenue opportunities and operational costs, giving both organizations a real basis for evaluating the partnership beyond mission alignment alone.
Operational Planning
Designed pickup and dropoff logistics with detailed maps and staging procedures, identifying mutual benefits and sample event day schedules that demonstrated the partnership's operational viability.
Stakeholder Communication
Crafted a professional proposal presentation for both BustoShow leadership and Rayback Collective management, highlighting environmental impact and alignment with Boulder's community values throughout.
The Process
- Researched BustoShow's existing operations, pickup locations, and ridership data, then analyzed North Boulder demographics, RTD routes, and transportation accessibility gaps to confirm the underlying need was real before proposing a specific solution to it. Starting with the existing service map made the gap immediately visible rather than something the team had to argue for from assumption.
- Evaluated the Rayback Collective as a potential partner based on location, capacity, and brand alignment, treating the site selection itself as something that needed justification, not just an assumption the team started with. A venue that shared BustoShow's community and sustainability values mattered as much as its physical suitability for staging pickups.
- Developed financial projections modeling revenue impact, operational costs, and ROI for both parties, since a proposal asking a business to host a pickup location needed to answer what was actually in it for them, not just for BustoShow's mission. Nonprofits and businesses respond to different kinds of evidence, and the financial modeling had to speak Rayback Collective's language as clearly as the safety data spoke to BustoShow's.
- Designed detailed operational logistics including staging areas, scheduling, and contingency plans, then compiled everything into a 17-page professional proposal with maps, financials, and compliance considerations, built to function as an actual operating document, not just a persuasive pitch. Contingency planning mattered specifically because a transportation partnership that only works under ideal conditions isn't actually ready to launch.
The Solution
The proposal successfully demonstrated the viability of the Rayback Collective as a strategic pickup location, reducing environmental impact, enhancing public safety, driving business growth for the venue, and strengthening community connections. Every argument in the proposal had to work on at least two levels at once, serving BustoShow's safety mission while making independent business sense for Rayback Collective, since a proposal that only satisfied one side of the partnership was never going to get approved by both.
The comprehensive 17-page deliverable included detailed financial projections, operational maps, sample event schedules, demographic analysis, and federal compliance considerations, providing BustoShow and the Rayback Collective with everything needed to launch the partnership. Nothing in the proposal was left as a future to-do, the goal was a document specific enough that either organization could act on it directly, without needing a second round of research or planning before the partnership could actually begin operating.
